Virgin Islands Snap EBT Info Page

Welcome to SNAP EBT information page for the state of Virgin Islands.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme (SNAP) of the United States Virgin Islands (previously known as the Food Stamp Programme) assists you and your family in purchasing nutritious foods. Food is available at most grocery stores and other food retailers. If you meet the program’s requirements, you will receive a special debit card. This debit card comes pre-loaded with a set amount of money to pay for food.

The card is accepted at most grocery stores, certain senior centres, and some meal delivery services. It functions exactly like a standard debit card. You use the card to pay for your groceries, and the cost is deducted from the total amount on the card. On a monthly basis, more money is loaded onto your debit card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use food stamps in the Virgin Islands?

Depending on your state and whether a member of the household is 60 or older or disabled, your household may be exempt from gross income, net income, and/or asset tests. Virgin Islands eligibility has been enhanced beyond the standard federal SNAP qualifying requirements.

How does SNAP work?

People who use SNAP receive monthly payments via a benefits card, which functions similarly to a debit card, to purchase groceries at local supermarkets or farmers’ markets. The amount you receive each month is based on your income and family size.

What can you purchase in the Virgin Islands using SNAP?

You can purchase bread, cereal, fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, plants, seeds, and other food-related items with  SNAP benefit.
