The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as the Food Assistance Program (FAP) in Ohio, provides financial assistance to low-income families in Ohio who qualify to stretch their food budgets and purchase nutritious foods.
Food assistance benefits are disbursed electronically using an “Ohio Direction Card” that may be used as cash in most grocery shops and certain farmers’ markets wherever EBT is accepted.
Another nutrition aid program that sends low-income, elderly people a monthly food package is the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Every one of Ohio’s 88 counties offers CSFP.

How do I apply for EBT in Ohio?
You can apply for the Ohio Food Assistance Program (FAP) in person at your local county agency or online at Ohio Benefits. Your payments are automatically sent to your EBT account on the same day of each month. You are eligible if you are approved into the program.
What can I purchase using EBT?
Food stamps permit purchasing food, snacks, and food-producing seeds or plants. Alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, live animals, prepared foods, and any non-food household items are not eligible for purchase with food stamps.
